Culture is the widening of the mind and of the spirit.
Mrs Catherine Ong was a passionate advocate for Peranakan heritage preservation in Singapore. As a founding member of the Peranakan Association and former curator at the Peranakan Museum, she dedicated her life to sharing the rich nyonya-baba culture with younger generations. Her handmade beaded slippers and kueh recipes are treasured family heirlooms. She was also a devoted wife, mother of two, and grandmother of five, whose home on Emerald Hill was always filled with laughter, spices, and stories.

Mrs Ong kebaya collection was legendary. She hosted so many workshops for young people interested in Peranakan heritage. Her legacy will live on in every beadwork pattern she taught.
Catherine was a mentor and a friend. Her knowledge of Peranakan culture was encyclopaedic, yet she shared it with such warmth and humour. The museum community mourns her deeply.
